About KCPR and the Pledge Drive

KCPR 91.3 FM is a student-run radio station that holds an annual six-week Pledge Drive fundraiser in spring quarter. The funds raised support equipment purchases, conference attendance, and student stipends. The Pledge Drive involves multiple events, merchandise creation, donor communications, and various fundraising initiatives.

Position Overview

The Pledge Drive Assistant will work directly with the KCPR Fundraising Manager to plan, execute, and evaluate all aspects of our annual Pledge Drive. This role requires creativity, organization, and a strong commitment to helping KCPR reach its fundraising goals through various initiatives and events. This position is ideal for students pursuing careers in public relations, marketing, business, nonprofit management, event planning, or fundraising, offering practical experience that directly applies to these professional fields.

Time Commitment

  • 3 hours per week during pre-planning period (Winter Quarter)
  • 5 hours per week during Pledge Drive (Spring Quarter)
  • Availability for special events, including some evenings and weekends (Spring Quarter)

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners
  • Create compelling communications across email, social media, and on-air platforms
  • Plan and execute station events to boost community engagement and fundraising
  • Collaborate on creative direction, including annual theme development and design contest
  • Structure donor tiers and select merchandise/premium offerings
  • Develop promotional strategy and content for multi-channel campaigns
  • Organize fundraising initiatives, including clothing drives and raffle ticket sales
  • Coordinate special events like Rhythm and Reuse and community fundraisers
  • Manage donor communications through regular newsletters and updates
  • Process donations and maintain accurate financial records
  • Support on-air pledge activities and track progress toward goals
  • Adapt responsibilities to meet seasonal needs with varying focus throughout the year, from planning phases to active pledge drive periods

*Note: Two assistants are being hired for this role, so some responsibilities are divided.

Qualifications

  • Current Cal Poly student (all majors welcome, particularly suited for PR, Marketing, Business, Communication, and Journalism majors)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Creative problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with MailChimp or similar email marketing platforms is a plus
  • Interest in fundraising, event planning, and/or community engagement
  • Looking for a willingness to learn and develop needed skills
