Here at KCPR, we serve a wide variety of interests. As a fully functioning media platform, we have a multitude of jobs to be done, and as such, a wide array of positions available. Staff members have opportunities to work in: music journalism, broadcast, events, production, marketing, videography, graphic design, web design and business administration.
Every year, KCPR takes on a new set of volunteers. Before being admitted into the trainee class, volunteers fill out an application and go through an interview. Once admitted, the new trainees meet each Wednesday night for the next 5 weeks. Meetings consist of meeting new friends, learning about the music and entertainment industry, and learning the technical basics of what it means to work at KCPR.
JOUR 220 teaches you everything you need to know to be a fully-fledged member of KCPR. This two unit class gives you your first bits of on-air time, as well as teaching you everything to know about the station.
Here’s a bit more info:
- Expected time commitment is around 6 hours a week: 2 hours in class, 2 hours in the studio and 2 hours of additional work.
- Class work will consist of recording shows, creating sound bites, learning FCC rules and the philosophy behind what makes KCPR tick.
- The class is taught by Thomas Morales, a journalist and engineer with over 20 years of working experience in broadcast.

Current staff members have interned at 8tracks, Red Light Management, Vice, Live Nation, Vanity Fair, Goldenvoice, GreenLight Media and Marketing, Surfdog Records, and Flood Magazine.
KCPR alumni are all over the music industry. Our alumni have gone on to work at Merge Records, Epic Records, ATO Records, RCA Records, KCRW, 91X, United Talent Agency, KCBX, Kobalt Music, Green Light Marketing, Forcefield PR, AM Only, Pitchfork, Spin, New York Times, Insomniac, Windish Agency and Red Light Management.
