Assistant Video Director

Working closely with the Audio/Video Director, Managing Editor, Editor-in-Chief and platform managers, the Assistant Video Director helps diversify our news coverage of Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo. The Assistant Video Director will determine the content that goes out to broadcasts

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the TA for JOUR 353
  • Assign all story pitches from students in the class and complete logistical tasks
  • Curate and distribute JOUR 353 content into Mustang News platforms
  • Assist in broadcast production, make sure everything is stable and all files are available
  • Communicate with reporters and answer questions about sources, newsgathering and writing
  • Use and assist reporters with industry standard software, including Adobe Premiere
  • Attend weekly Sunday editorial staff meetings either in person or via Zoom
  • Assist with breaking news or live coverage as needed
  • Lead or assist in MNTV broadcasts such as Mustang Gameday and Open House showcase

This is a great position for someone interested in mentoring other reporters, video production and understanding the process of television broadcast news.
